Variables
Sharp-shinned Hawk
Occurred the most disproportionately in hexagons with annual
precipitation 431-1511 mm and July minimum temperature (hex. min.)
of 1-5 C and either a April minimum temperature (hex. min.) of -2 to
-6 C or a July maximum temperature (hex. max.) of more than 26 C.
Almost equally likely to occur in hexagons with somewhat more
annual precipitation (more than 1511 mm), provided they contain some
recently cutover/burnt forest. Also occur in drier conditions (303-431
mm annual precipitation), especially where ponderosa pine forest
occupies more than 2% of a hexagon and extent of the most extensive
cover type in the hexagon less than 57%. The logistic regression
analysis showed positive or negative association with big sagebrush
shrubland, ponderosa pine forest, June maximum temperature (hex.
min.), and-to a lesser degree-number of land cover types.
